Conditions Treated

We are well experienced in treating patients with a wide variety of conditions including traumatic injuries, overuse problems, fractures and dislocations.
We have successfully helped athletes return to their individual sports and hobbies at all standards of ability from recreational and social sports clubs to those competing at county, national and international levels.
Each sport requires a blend of various skills and abilities. We have treated top sportsmen with totally different objectives and needs, in sports as diverse as : pistol shooting, orienteering, rugby union, skiing and swimming. However it is equally satisfying to help those aiming to return to recreational and social sport.
Treatment techniques include mobilisation, massage, electrotherapy and structured exercise programmes.
Advice is always given on self management and prevention whenever possible.
If you have just injured yourself this is first aid advice for sprains, strains and bruises.
If you think that you might have broken a bone or dislocated a joint you should attend an Accident and Emergency department or a GP as soon as possible.
If there is no risk of break or dislocation follow this protocol for at least 48 hours as able.
- Rest - Stop the activity that has caused the injury
- Ice - Apply an ice or cold pack to the injured site for 5 minutes. (Warning : to prevent an ice burn, place a damp towel between the skin and the ice pack)
- Compression - Remove the ice or cold pack and apply a firm bandage
- Elevation - Elevate the injured limb in a supported position above the level of your heart
This is known as the R.I.C.E. method of self treatment.
DO NOT:
- Apply heat
- Massage your injury
- Drink alcohol
These activities increase bleeding and swelling.
